The Ex-Mussoorie Alumni Association was founded in September 2008, in New York City, by a group of Mussoorie alumni. This Association was created with three goals in mind:
» to raise funds for students from low-income families
» to create a portal where fellow alumnus can touch base with one another
» to support other Mussoorie Alumni Associations in the United States
The main goal of the Association is to raise funds for many poor, destitute students from the Tuting area of Arunachal Pradesh. We recently received a letter from Gyen Pemla and Gyen Yungdrungla of CST, Mussoorie, outlining the hardships faced by 131 students in their care.
Most of the children are from poor families, who cannot afford tuition, room or board. The Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration, Dharamsala, assists them with free boarding and lodging as well as one-time school uniforms. However, they do not have proper clothing to be used after school hours. They subsist on used clothes donated by local settlements. They also do not have the money to visit their parents during the winter. Hence, the responsibility of supporting them falls on the Tibetan government.
A lot of these hardships are not unknown to us. Many of us have been recipients of generous donations from foreigners and Tibetans during our school time. As alumni of this school, we should now reach out to these students and help them as much as we can.
In order to accomplish our first goal of raising funds for the school, our strategy is to host a party every year in New York City. Also, we are going to depend on individual donations and voluntary membership fee. We can’t emphasize enough that making this event successful is a collaborations of all the ex-mie living in and around New York City. Therefore, we are encouraging every one to attend this party annually as proceedings will go towards the needy students in Mussoorie. As we progress and start raising funds, we will make our financial documents available to the public.
